ALBUQUERQUE, NM – When Christopher Chase, 35, tattooed the words “Cop Killer” on his knuckles, he was dead serious about his intentions regarding the police.  On the morning of October 26th, 2013, he set up an ambush, and had witnesses call the Albuquerque Police Department.

Chase shot an officer and stole the officer’s police cruiser, leading the police on a 16-mile pursuit, which ended when he crashed the stolen vehicle into a gas station.

In total, Chase shot four officers during the ambush and firefight before officers were finally able to gain the upper hand on Chase, shooting him a total of eight times.  Although Chase did not survive, three of officers who were shot received only minor injuries, while one Bernalillo sheriff’s deputy required surgery from a shot that shattered his femur.

Although the shooting is still under investigation, the Albuquerque Police Department released harrowing footage of the ambush captured by various officers’ lapel-mounted cameras.
