Twitter Caught In Same Big Trouble As Facebook

Twitter overcharged marketers as much as 35 percent after a bug was discovered in its Android app that inflates the video advertising metric.

Twitter disclosed the technical glitch to advertisers earlier in the week, but didn’t publicly make an announcement until Thursday, reports Business Insider.

“We recently discovered a technical error due to a Twitter product update to Android clients that affected some video ad campaigns from November 7 to December 12,” a Twitter spokesperson told Business Insider. “Once we discovered the issue, we resolved it and communicated the impact to affected partners. Twitter issued refunds to the advertisers it over-billed.

The latest blunder comes at a precarious time for Twitter after two executives announced their resignation from the company earlier in the week, making it four high-level departures in less than two months.

Facebook admitted in September that it misled advertisers after it discovered that the average viewing time for video advertisements was inflated. The social media company was forced to apologize for the mishap, and ended up hiring outside help to hone its calculation technology.
