Republican nominee Donald Trump continued his slide with male voters, according to a Tuesday analysis published by Morning Consult.
Trump led Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton among male voters by 8 percent before the first presidential debate. Shortly after the debate, both candidates closed the gap, with Trump only earning 40 percent of male voters, and 38 percent supporting Clinton.
Both candidates rose to 41 percent support among men before the New York Times published Trump’s tax returns in October, but Clinton continued to gain ground until the second presidential debate, where she earned 43 percent support. Since the debate, Trump slid from 40 percent to 37 percent.
Clinton currently holds a 6-point lead with all male voters, according to the latest Morning Consult poll.
Trump’s slide with his most supportive demographic allowed Clinton’s poll numbers to remain above Trump’s, according to Morning Consult.
Trump also lost with Independent voters. The Republican nominee earned a 14-point lead over Clinton in the poll, a lead that is now a dismal 3 percent.
Clinton currently has a 6-point lead, earning 42 percent compared to Trump’s 36 percent support in the nation-wide head-to-head poll.
NBC released a national poll Tuesday as well that shows Clinton still in the lead, but by 5 points only, not six. Clinton gained with young male voters, as well as young women voters. Trump did carry stronger numbers with older female voters, as well as voters that were not college-educated.
