Presidential hopeful, Donald Trump spoke to supporters at a rally in Springfield, IL on Monday, expressing his outrage with Starbuck’s red cup design.
He admitted that despite having a successful Starbucks in his Trump Towers, he we should consider boycotting the coffee giant. “Maybe we should boycott Starbucks,” he said to applause. “I don’t know. Seriously. I don’t care. By the way, that’s the end of that lease, but who cares. Who cares.”
It is worth considering just how viable the current lease between Starbucks and Trump Towers is right now. If there isn’t a rental dispute, there may be one now. Trump has decided to jump on the Red Cup Rage Bandwagon, and he’s not mincing words.
“Starbucks is taking ‘Merry Christmas’ off –no more Merry Christmas,” he said. “I will tell you–lots of big things lots of little things, you can call this anything you want, but if I become President, we’re all going to be saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again, that I will tell you.”
What does he mean when he says “We’re all going to be saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again?” Does he plan on signing an executive order to force business owners to say it?
It’s important to note that Starbucks has always had a ‘holiday’ design on their cups that was not specific to any one holiday. Starbuck’s VP of Design & Content, Jeffrey Fields commented that “In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs. This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories.”

Donald Trump is polling well, appealing to the rally-goers who cheer loudly at is authoritative words; but they aren’t cheering for freedom and protection of civil liberties for all. Trump’s statements prove that he is only interested in the liberties of some at the expense of others. Trump supporters do not concern themselves that perhaps their liberties may one day be on the Trump chopping block, as they should; because Trump is a man who is not afraid to use his power and authority to take them away if he doesn’t like it.
