Trump Response is Basically What You’d Expect

by Josh Guckert

As reported by The Libertarian Republic, NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has decided to refrain from standing during the pre-game playing of the Star Spangled Banner. As a result, he has received vicious criticism from across the country and from all walks of life.

The latest to get involved in the hostility toward Kaepernick is none other than Republican nominee Donald Trump. His response, much like the rest of his platform, was devoid of any substance of reason. Said Trump:

I have followed it and I think it’s personally not a good thing. I think it’s a terrible thing, and you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him, let him try, it’s not gonna happen.

This response has become a common refrain toward those critical of American nationalism and patriotism. Peaceful protesters like Kaepernick are told that if they do not care to abide by social norms that they ought to leave the country. Another common statement has been that Kaepernick has no room to complain since he makes several million dollars a year to play a game.

However, better put, Kaepernick is simply using his First Amendment rights to express his dissatisfaction. This is among the most patriotic of activities. Moreover, while he may have been fortunate to be athletically gifted, he likely has in mind those who were not so lucky. Plenty can question the effectiveness of Kaepernick’s display, but his rights to conduct it are above reproach. Any suggestion that he leave the country due to his different opinion is not only asinine; it is un-American.

Frankly, when these silly criticisms are made, they end up sounding a lot like South Park:
