A pro-Trump nonprofit announced plans to spend up to $3 million in ads for 12 congressional Republicans who supported President Donald Trump’s health care plan, according to a Sunday report in The Washington Post.
America First Policies plans to spend the $3 million in advertising towards 12 Republican congressmen who supported the most recent attempt to replace the Affordable Care Act. Former Trump campaign staffer Brad Parscale heads the group. His consulting firm was behind the Trump campaign’s extremely targeted online advertising, and Parscale believes this strategy contributed to Trump’s win in November.
The ads feature replacing Obamacare and praise the lawmakers for their “standing with President Trump to repeal Obamacare now,” according to the report. The ads also thank Republicans for fighting House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Republican Reps. Gary Palmer of Alabama, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, David Schweikert of Arizona, Keith Rothfus of Pennsylvania, Rob Wittman of Virginia, Tom Graves of Georgia, Scott Tipton of Colorado, Thomas Garrett of Virginia, David Joyce of Ohio, Michael Turner of Ohio, March McSally of Arizona, and Brian Mast of Florida will all receive supportive advertising from the group.
None of the representatives the group plans to support are in particularly vulnerable races. They fall into the “Likely Republican” or “Safe Republican” designation, according to the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.
Trump previously urged members of the House Freedom Caucus to “fall in line” after the Republican plan to replace Obamacare was pulled from the floor after it failed to get the required number of votes to pass.
The Congressional Leadership Fund, a super-PAC run by Republican leadership in the House, previously withdrew ad funding and closed satellite campaign offices that would have supported Reps. Don Bacon and David Young’s re-election bids after announcing they opposed the American Health Care Act.
