President-elect Donald Trump has given up his Android phone for a Secret Service-approved “tweeter” device that he may use to connect with his 20.5 million Twitter followers as president.
Trump’s new encrypted device also takes calls, but only a few select people have access to the number, the New York Times reported Thursday.
Rather than use the @POTUS Twitter account set up by President Barack Obama in 2015, Trump intends to continue communicating with the followers through his @realDonaldTrump username. (RELATED: Trump Says His Twitter Account Will Continue To Get Around The ‘Dishonest’ Press)
Trump frequently does not always post tweets himself, but dictates his tweets to staff, Mike Allen at Axios reported Friday.
“I thought I’d do less of it [tweeting], but I’m covered so dishonestly by the press — so dishonestly,” Trump told The Sunday Times of London during an interview.
Trump believes his tweets are the best way to get around the media, which he says treats him very unfairly.
Just watched @NBCNightlyNews – So biased, inaccurate and bad, point after point. Just can’t get much worse, although @CNN is right up there!

With 20 million followers on Twitter, and a total of 46 million across his social media accounts, there’s no reason to switch from to the @POTUS handle President Barack Obama set up.
“When you think that you’re 46 million there, I’d rather just let that build up and just keep it @realDonaldTrump, it’s working,” Trump said in an interview with The Sunday Times.
