Trump Doubles Down On Socialized Healthcare On Eve Of Iowa Caucuses

By Lina Bryce

Donald Trump appeared on This Week with host George Stephanopoulos Sunday to discuss his views on universal healthcare coverage, sounding far more like a Democrat than a Republican.

Trump wants to be president of the United States so that he can “help people” by favoring government-funded coverage, and unlike Senator Ted Cruz, he says, “I have a heart.”

“If somebody has no money and they’re lying in the middle of the street and they’re dying, I’m going to take care of that person,” Trump said.

Of course, what he really meant was that he’s going to force all of us to pay for it.

Taking a page right out of the Democrat’s playbook, Trump posits that one “must be selfish or heartless, otherwise you would want the government to help!”

What Trump should be doing as a Republican candidate is living by example. He could voluntarily take small portion of his billions of dollars and open up a free clinic for those who can’t afford health insurance. He could raise additional funds by creating a non-profit charity that his children can help run. He would have no problem reaching out to those whom have received generous donations from him in the past, like the Clinton family, to help with the success of this endeavor. However, I do warn Mr. Trump that this project would be taken on only by someone with a big heart.

Meanwhile, he called Ted Cruz, who advocates against a government controlled system, a “liar.”

“Look, Ted Cruz is a total liar. I am so against Obamacare,” Trump said, calling the policy a “disaster.” “I’ve been saying it for two years in my speeches, I’m going to repeal and replace Obamacare. I don’t even know where he gets this.”

Essentially, Trump plans to replace a failed, government-controlled healthcare system with another government healthcare system. What does he have planned, exactly? We don’t know. Trump didn’t reveal any specifics.

“If people have no money, we have to help people,” Trump said. “But that doesn’t mean single payer. It means we have to help people. If somebody has no money and they’re lying in the middle of the street and they’re dying, I’m going to take care of that person.”

To accomplish this, Trump says,

We’re going to work with our hospitals. We’re going to work with our doctors. We’ve got to do something. You can’t have a — a small percentage of our economy, because they’re down and out, have absolutely no protection so they end up dying from, you know, what you could have a simple procedure or even a pill. You can’t do that. We’ll work something out. That doesn’t mean single payer. And I mean, maybe he’s got no heart. And if this means I lose an election, that’s fine, because, frankly, we have to take care of the people in our country. We can’t let them die on the sidewalks of New York or the sidewalks of Iowa or anywhere else.

We already have Medicare and Medicaid, so why the need to replace Obamacare with something else? Furthermore, we already have a socialist and a progressive Democrat running in this election on the Democratic side, so why do we need another one on the Republican ticket?

To call a Republican who is heralding an issue that is the Republican platform “heartless” one day before the Iowa Caucuses takes a lot of nerve.
