The Border Patrol Union Endorsing Trump is Significant. Here’s Why…

The Significance of The Border Patrol Union Endorsing Trump

by Darnyell Wint

It comes as no surprise that the union for approximately 18,000 Border Patrol Agents and support personnel endorsed Donald Trump. The endorsement acknowledges that a Trump Presidency would involve more rigorous and well-funded border security operations.

Still, besides job security, federal budget surpluses and prospect of a southern border wall, the endorsement speaks to Border Agents’ sentiment of the current administration.

The National Border Patrol Council President, Brandon Judd, testified that President Obama’s “catch-and-release” policies forces Agents to release almost every undocumented individual it comes into contact with, even if that person has a criminal history.

President Judd testified that the Border Patrol had to walk out an undocumented felon in Louisiana who had a history of domestic violence against women.

The National Border Patrol Council has also been open about their dismay of President Obama’s border security policy. Published on the [NBPC website]:

President Obama’s immigration policies, the product of special interest collusion, have decimated border security. These failures have flooded our communities with illegal immigrants, criminals, and dangerous drugs, such as meth and heroin. The refusal to enforce our immigration laws has given drug cartels the opportunity to expand their territory across America.

It also states how Hillary’s border security policy would further decimate border security. Hillary Clinton has called for amnesty in her first 100 days and continuing Obama’s policies.

Although the Council is not a branch of any Homeland Security agency, it does claim to represent the interests and safety of Border Agents.

This is a big endorsement for Donald Trump and he can use it to appeal to voters. Apart from border security, Trump has also capitalized on creating new jobs. His business man “aura” creates a sense of confidence and guarantee that he’ll fulfill his campaign promises.

Trump has been scapegoated by the media for what they consider “extreme” proposals. Voters not only have to ask whether his proposals are extreme, but whether he can push through the gridlock in Washington and get them done.

The Department of Homeland Security and USCIS [U.S Custom and Immigration Services] have been recruiting on college campuses and willing to take recent graduates, who are more than likely searching for employment. The minimum requirement is having a bachelor’s degree.

The possibility of Trump being elected might give jobless graduates more opportunities of getting employed. A reason Bernie Sanders did so well with this demographic was his support of reducing student debt. One solution to this is career opportunities that don’t require a minimum 4-5 years of experience.
