Teacher suspended for ten days after man-handling kindergartener

HANCOCK COUNTY, OH–A teacher has been suspended for ten days and may be facing more charges after a surveillance video surfaced last week. 6-year-old Ian Nelson was exiting the restroom when he was confronted by his teacher, Barb Williams. It’s unclear what incited her wrath, but within seconds she had grabbed the kindergartener and picked him up against the wall.

Ian was then grabbed by the face and the front of his shirt, his head lolling back as his teacher lifted him off the floor. Autumn and Anthony Nelson, who have two other children in Riverdale School District, are livid.

“I would consider what would happen to myself, if I were to do that to her. If I were to do that to her, I would go to jail,” said Anthony Nelson told WAFF.

The teacher has been with the school district for 14 years, but she clearly needs anger management classes. The 10-day suspension isn’t enough to quell the parents’ rage, given that summer vacation starts just next week. Ian’s father had complained about Williams to the principal last November, but his grievances were dismissed. In fact, the principal stated that Williams was “a highly recommended teacher,” and refused to move the child to a different class.

Now the parents want more than just a transfer. They want Williams fired, and have even taken the video to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office to try to file criminal charges against the teacher.

“[T]here’s no one that should ever put their hands on a child,” said Anthony Nelson.

For now, the teacher’s 10 day suspension stands, but that could change depending the outcome of the Hancock County Sheriff’s investigation.
