Is the spending battle lost and higher taxes on the way? (VIDEO)

“Democrats line up to defend Social Security, Republicans line up to defend the Pentagon, no one defends the taxpayer.”

NEW YORK, NY – Former Reagan Budget Director David Stockman appeared on Fox News to argue that Republicans snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the recent budget battle. He believes that the GOP was betrayed by Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY)  and others in the leadership.

Stockman says that the threats of busting through the debt ceiling was a farce, and that there was never any danger of that happening. He criticized the “surrender artists” in the party for putting the Republicans in such a bad position. He thinks the debt ceiling must be a lever to force spending reform or sooner or later someone will have to pay higher taxes, and it can’t just be the rich because you could tax them 100% and still not pay off the national debt.

In this interview with Neil Cavuto, Stockman took aim at the D.C. establishment:

“Democrats line up to defend Social Security, Republicans line up to defend the Pentagon, no one defends the taxpayer. No one defends the future generations who are going to carry all this debt. The economy sinks more and more under this huge burden, we’re in a non functional, dysfunctional broken system that uh, you cannot overemphasize how disastrous this situation is and then we have Obamacare catastrophe coming in on top of that. And then we have the Fed.”
