People complained about “cultural appropriation” after a gay porn video showed two men using an Aboriginal instrument in lieu of a dildo.
The gay porn video, posted by Men.com, shows one man taking the didgeridoo and using it to penetrate the other character as form of revenge for being woken up, reports the Star Observer. At one point, one of them tells the other “I’m gonna didgeridoo you in the ass.”
People were not happy that a sacred musical instrument was used as a sex toy, saying the instrument’s presence demonstrated “cultural appropriation.”
“Wow, porn actually managed to cross a line – incredibly disrespectful to the Australian Aboriginal communities,” one person wrote over social media.
One user called the video “racist” and “culturally offensive.”
“So no one is going to mention the fact that this is incredibly racist and culturally offensive? Don’t laugh, get angry,” another one said.
The English Rugby team was accused of “cultural appropriation” after people criticized them for using the slave song “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” as their pre-game chant.
“Such cross-cultural appropriations of U.S. slave songs betray a total lack of understanding of the historical context in which those songs were created by the American slave,” Josephine Wright, a music professor at the College of Wooster, previously said.
