Is It Really Sexist to Question Hillary Clinton’s Health?

by Julie Borowski

Yesterday, #HillarysHealth was trending on Twitter.

A significant number of users were complaining that it’s “sexist” to question Hillary’s health.

Oh, come on.

Hillary isn’t the first presidential candidate to have his or her health questioned.

In 2008, John McCain’s health was a huge campaign issue due to his age. He was 71, while Hillary is 68. Pundits regularly put out articles addressing if he was in the right mind to lead. A Pew Poll showed that 23% of Democrats believe that he was too old to be president. His campaign even felt compelled to release his overall good medical records to reporters to help ease Americans concerns about his health.

Likewise, Dick Cheney’s long history of heart problems was newsworthy during campaign season.

Right before the 2000 election, the Bush campaign released his medical records to show that his health has been improving since his heart attacks. The media interviewed doctors about whether voters should be concerned about his heart condition.

“The voters will decide, but it’s definitely a red flag,” said Dr. Gary Schaer, director of the cardiac catheterization laboratories at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago during a 2000 interview with the Chicago Tribune. “If he’s in the position of taking over the presidency, he’s going to have to have a strong physiology.”

Once again, Hillary’s gender is being used to shield her from valid criticism and concerns.

For months, there has been evidence of her in bad health.

A picture was released showing secret service agents helping her up the stairs as she struggled to maintain her balance. She appeared to have a seizure while being interviewed by a reporter. She had a long coughing fit during a campaign speech. She frequently sits on stools at campaign events instead of standing.

The most damning video came this weekend with Hillary Clinton being carried into the van.

What’s going on?

The Clinton campaign finally announced that she has pneumonia.

Is that all?

They are expected to release more information this week– stay tuned.
