Senator Mike Lee is the Last Seated Republican Who Still Resists Trump

by Micah J. Fleck

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) might just be the most honorable Republican in the whole senate, as he is the only guy left to not endorse Donald Trump as the Republican nominee for president of the United States. Now that Ted Cruz has shown the world exactly what he is, of course.

According to the Independent Journal Review:

One of the individuals on Trump’s SCOTUS list is Senator Mike Lee (R-UT).

While Lee “appreciates being considered” for the Supreme Court, it doesn’t appear that the senator will budge on Trump, telling The Washington Examiner:

“I consistently follow certain criteria when deciding whether to endorse any candidate pursuing a federal office. Those criteria focus on each candidate’s grasp of—and willingness to work tirelessly to restore—federalism and separation of powers.

I am always eager to support any candidate willing to make those structural constitutional protections a priority. In this race and in every other, I will continue to use the same criteria.”

Independent Journal Review spoke with a source familiar with the senator who said that Lee is disappointed in Cruz’s endorsement but hopes to remains friends.

The fact that Senator Lee can still stick to his principled guns, even with the prospect of losing a Supreme Court seat looming large above his head, is enough evidence for me – Mike Lee is a true American hero, and a true representative of not only the people, but the philosophy that birthed this nation in the first place.

Bravo, Senator. Bravo.
