No, Ron Paul Did Not Tell Libertarians to Vote for Jill Stein

by Julie Borowski

A lot of people are accusing Ron Paul of suggesting that libertarians should vote for Jill Stein.

Of course, Ron Paul did no such thing.

Here’s what Ron Paul actually said in the interview, “The independents who don’t know what to do and who should they pick, I say if you tend to lean towards progressivism and liberalism and you know you are interested in expressing yourself, you can vote for the Green Party.”

He’s talking about independents that lean towards progressivism like Bernie supporters, not libertarians.

For a liberal who supports a non-intervention foreign policy, it would make sense to vote for Jill Stein over Hillary Clinton. That doesn’t mean Ron Paul thinks she’s an overall liberty-minded candidate. Not at all.

I highly doubt that there are many libertarians considering voting for Jill Stein. While she may be good on a few select issues like foreign policy and civil liberties, she’s a disaster on economic issues.

She’s in support of:

  • A $15 minimum wage that would put a significant number of low-wage workers out of work;
  • Universal health care that would increase the cost of health care and create longer wait times for care;
  • Higher taxes that would take away more money from hardworking Americans;
  • A number of other big government economic policies that libertarians, like Ron Paul, oppose.

He went on to say that he has not endorsed anyone in the race.

Let this be a lesson to read past the media’s misleading headlines.
