Rand Paul calls for felons to have their voting rights restored (VIDEO)

We can pay taxes, but we can’t vote?

LOUISVILLE – Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) stated that he would support a push for felons to have their voting rights restored. Paul believes it would be good to have a waiting period first to make sure that they don’t relapse, but that he would attempt to push for restoration of those rights. The Kentucky senator spoke to community leaders Reverend Alonzo Malone and Shawn Gardner who were both convicted felons. Paul said “the chance that a black man’s going to be in jail for drugs is four to five times greater than a white person even though white people are 85% of the public”.

Rand Paul will be testifying on altering minimum sentencing requirements later this week. He wants to give drug offenders a second chance and has been making the rounds in his state to reach out to those who have been victimized by the War on Drugs. Some believe that Paul is attempting to win over minority voters who have abandoned voting for the Republican Party. If he were to run for President, it would be a wise move to begin reaching out to disenchanted voters on these issues right now.
