Poll: More Americans Than Ever Believe The Terrorists Are Winning

Casey Harper

More voters than ever think America is losing the war on terror, according to a recent poll.

Rasmussen has been asking likely voters since 2005 if they believe the U.S. and its allies are winning the war on terror, and this month more respondents than in any of the previous polls answered with a resounding no.

The poll released Monday shows that 46 percent of likely voters believe the terrorists are winning the war on terror, while only 26 percent believe the U.S. and its allies are winning. The lack of confidence has been climbing steadily all year. In January, 33 percent of likely voters said the terrorists are winning and 23 percent said the U.S. is winning.

A year earlier, in January of 2014, 39 percent of likely voters believed the U.S. was winning the war on terror while 30 percent believed the terrorists were winning.

The number could be a bad sign for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. She will try to tout her experience as secretary of state but in the wake of her service, it appears Americans feel as shaky as ever about Washington’s progress in a regional conflict.

The poll shows, though, that when Clinton resigned in February of 2013, 22 percent of Americans believed the terrorists were winning while 42 percent believed the U.S. was winning. But Republicans argue that her failures allowed ISIS to grow rapidly after her departure.
