Man Attacks Cop With Shovel. This Kills The Man.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Dramatic video of a man attacking a police officer and getting killed was shared by KUTV in Salt Lake.

James Barker had been looking for snow shoveling jobs, when neighbors reported to police that he had been suspiciously approaching vehicles and looking inside. When confronted by an officer, Barker initially seemed tense, but calm until the policeman asked for his name, which he refused to give.

“I’ve had neighbors call saying they saw you looking in cars yesterday,” the officer told Barker. “They said you come up today and they said they don’t have snow removal and they don’t need no snow removal.”

“You’re suspicious in the neighborhood. People are calling in on you,” said the officer. “I just didn’t stop you for no reason. Let me explain something to you.”

From KUTV:

“No, I’m doing my business, OK?” Barker responded before yelling, “I’m trying to make a living!”

The officer called for backup and told Barker to calm down.
“No, you need to calm down; I’m trying to do my business!” Barker replied angrily.

Right after that, as the officer reached out his hand, the video showed Barker grabbing his snow shovel, yelling, “You can’t get in my face,” and swinging the snow shovel at the officer.

According to Salt Lake police, the officer was hit several times with the shovel and suffered “multiple bone fractures.”

At that point, the video ended. Salt Lake police say the officer’s body camera was damaged. But a close look at the footage before it cuts out shows the officer appearing to pull out his gun. It also shows the snow shovel, clearly damaged after the initial hit.

The officer ended up shooting Barker, killing him.
