JENNING, LA – It’s now illegal in Jefferson Davis Parish to wear baggy pants, and the fine for doing so is $50. The local Police Jury passed an ordinance that makes it illegal for a person to appear in public wearing pants that sag below the waist and expose the skin or undergarments.
The ordinance comes on the heels of complaints that the panel has fielded about employees at a courthouse who suffered from having to see people’s underwear and body parts in public.
The ordinance was approved on Wednesday. People violating the law face a $50 fine for the first offense and a $100 fine for each subsequent violation.
Why does the government see fit to prosecute people for victimless crimes? Some people are complaining that the law amounts to nothing more than racial profiling.
The local nationalist movement (Nazi) has taken up the cause with glee, promoting a local news report on their Youtube account while commenters laugh about how much easier it will be now to catch criminals who try to run away.
Users of Twitter have reacted with appropriate and sometimes hilarious responses to saggy pants bans that have been enacted across the United States. Here are some of the best below.
