Missing the Forest for the Racists
One of the odd things about being one-half of an interracial couple is that you never look at the person you’re with and think, “Black person.” But people inevitably ask, “What’s it like?”
What I think they’re really asking is: “What’s it like to wake up in the morning, look across the bed, and think to yourself, ‘black person’?”
It doesn’t happen.
Race pimping liberals unfortunately only think “black person” in any case in which a black person has been the victim of a crime committed by a white person. Statistically speaking, it’s incredibly unlikely that all instances of police brutality stem only from racial bias. Just think of a case where white cops kill a white man, or black cops kill a black man. But to speak to the subject at hand, it’s also unlikely that all cases of a white cop killing a black man are attributed to racial biases. Consequently, there must be one or several other causes at work.
So when Jon Stewart smugly derides the notion that perhaps institutional corruption or bad laws might have something to do with police brutality aimed at minorities, he concedes his own inability to think beyond the color of someone’s skin. He looks at Eric Garner and thinks to himself, “black person.” How brilliant.
This is how liberals pimp race: by emphatically asserting that it is a huge problem, the severity of which leads to the exclusion of all others. If you don’t believe it, you’re a racist too they say. Of course, this is for a reason. It’s the easiest sale to make. It’s easily accepted at home while you give a shit for 30 minutes before forgetting about the “ghetto” and remembering the good old days at your mollycoddling New England campus however many years ago. It’s the most economical way (in terms of intellectual acuity and actual effort expended) to signal to others, “I’m really tolerant, not racist whatsoever, and this bothers me.”
Speaking of campuses, Smith College’s President was excoriated for daring to note that “All lives matter” because there’s no reason to be talking about anything but black person. If anyone mentions anything other than black person, not only is it incorrect, it’s completely insensitive and—in some cases—racist.
Because black person.
So what about all the deaths at the hands of police that cannot be attributed to racism? In this moment where the public is paying attention to police brutality, liberals are attempting to silence not even just the opposition, but people who agree with them but don’t have the right reasons for doing so. Does it really matter as long as black lives are saved? What harm could even come out of addressing the problem of police brutality in general?
Consider the harm if we don’t address institutional issues: the blood of innocent victims of all races and ethnicities. As long as we can attribute some blame to the state and liberal laws, it’s dangerous to ignore them. Lives are on the line.
What’s even more idiotic is the idea that we have to choose what to talk about! Of course, liberals think there’s only one conversation to be had, so they don’t see it as a choice. In reality, the abuses we see committed by police have more than just one cause. We have to talk about all of them.
Or we can be good little progressive citizens and make sure not to mention anything other than “black person.”
Death and Deathly Taxes
Liberals must exclude all other possible explanations because they are culpable in some cases for violence inflicted on the people they purportedly care about. If the problem isn’t just racism, and is instead some fundamental flaw with the state itself, then any proponent of the state has been selling rotten apples all along.
This is precisely what libertarians have contended: paternalistic laws meant to support, help, or protect some group are going to have to come out of someone’s hide. If you pass laws that create black markets for goods at small profits, poor people will gladly become criminals and the police will gladly baton them mercilessly for doing so.
It’s amazing to see liberals rhetorically ask whether a black person should get the death penalty for selling loosies. Yes, stupid. That’s exactly the point libertarians have been making about police departments and government for years. When you break the law and your culture has committed to following the rule of law as if it were some mystical deity never to be offended, you’ll end up with dead black men who were killed for selling loosies. You’ll end up with total policing.
What’s total policing? It’s police enforcing every law on the book indiscriminately as if they were at war. A law is a law is a law. There’s no discretion involved.
I’ve seen this discussion many times on the internet:
Libertarian: “Government is merely the use of force.”
Liberal: “Nah ah. Government is all the useful stuff we get together and decide to do because [insert childishly ignorant, utopian belief here].”
Libertarian: “Ok, so what happens if you don’t pay a parking ticket? If you resist police officers coming into your house to take your stuff?”
Liberal: “LOL, why would anyone resist? Plus, I doubt the police would actually use force against someone over a parking ticket.”
Unless, of course, black person.
It’s so frustrating that liberals don’t see that it’s not because black person that we have total policing, but because how the mentally challenged statists in society have developed its criminal justice institutions and selected its laws.
So when liberals have decided to pass laws that poor people and minorities are more likely to break, they are culpable for the subsequent police abuse. It’s not like they don’t know minorities and poor people are more likely to break them, and since they obviously go on and onand on about racist, violent police departments, why would they keep them on the books? You cannot know both these facts and not see trouble on the horizon. Unless you’re stupid. I’ll concede liberals might be that stupid.
Or maybe, as Jon Stewart so eloquently puts it on his show, “LOL, black person.”
Imagine a World without Racism
Even in a world where the police were perfectly free of racial bias, there’s no reason to believe that you’d get results that are any different than what they are today. For even if the future was a lovely place, the past still has its grip on us all. Poor people and minorities would still be more likely to break certain laws on the books like selling loosies. They would still have fewer resources with which to defend themselves in court. Shitty public defenders would still be assigned to their cases. Prosecutors would still see theirs as slam dunk cases.
Police would still be assaulting people for petty crimes.
How do I know this? That’s what they’re taught to do. Police culture demands it. If it hadn’t been loosies, it would have been 32-ounce sodas. That’s what the police are the world over. That’s why they resist wearing body cams and turn off their dashboard cams. Police are a violent bunch. They beat their wives more often than husbands in the general public—and NFL players. The state ensures they have adequately low IQs. It’s all in a day’s work for someone whose job it is to enforce laws indiscriminately and violently, no matter the crime nor the color of the criminal.
Or, you know, black person.
A Monopoly on Kicking Ass and Chewing Gum
Have you ever seen an episode of Law & Order? The world looks nothing like that. Prosecutors can get a grand jury to indict pretty much anyone for anything, but are reluctant to do so in cases where the police are involved.
One hand washes the other. Prosecutors and police have to work together to get credit for their jobs: one to arrest, the other to try. So who punishes the punishers?
No one. It’s the rule of law! Every scumbag politician and police officer will go up there and say they trust the system. Let the system work. Let the system do its magic. It’s quite the trick since everyone keeps on believing them.
But it’s more than belief. It’s social condemnation that occurs anytime someone speaks out against the police. You call a cop a scumbag? You must literally hate America and want criminals to be robbing babies and punching old women as often as possible. Not to mention you’re probably a drug-addled thug yourself who I’m going to report to the authorities the second I get even if just to screw with you for being so patently un-American.
This has to change. This fundamental belief in “the system” needs to die millions of deaths in the minds of Americans. Black people are already there. When has it ever worked for them?
But we need to go one further: all these race pimps must be tossed to the curb.
Buy guns, start businesses, and stop smashing windows. When you start committing property crimes, that’s when the state has you. That’s what they know how to deal with. That’s what they’re trained for. Don’t give them what they want. Instead, take away their legitimacy: first in your mind and then in practice.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Protest
The silliest thing I’ve seen is protestors yelling, “No justice, no peace,” and then getting back on the sidewalk whenever a cop goes by barking orders. The unsilliest thing I’ve seen is people getting brutally beaten and otherwise assaulted by police for what amounts to walking around chanting, “No justice, no peace.”
What do liberals think they’re doing when they show up to get ordered around and then assaulted? I’m not even talking about the people who show up to riot and loot. They’re a different story altogether. Not only are they enabling the police, they’re committing assault and destroying the property of people who are stuck on the wrong side of the impenetrable blue line with them. Is there really no better way to make sure your neighbors side with you against the police? But again, the rioters and looters aren’t really in it for the hope and change.
So what about the liberals who show up to chant and signal their distress. What do they want? They want you to vote harder. They want you to vote as hard as you possibly can. That’ll show ‘em!
But that doesn’t change the nature of the state. Putting Democrats and other leftists into office doesn’t change what police do when they are given a monopoly on the use of force and on top of that there is no repercussion for their misdeeds. All you’re doing is selecting the liars who’ll be feeding you swine shit. Meanwhile, the police will sit back and collect overtime to herd you back onto the sidewalks, out of traffic, and ensure you’re certainly not any threat to them.
There is no threat you can make to a monopolist who has the power to crush you. Even if you successfully make a threat, make no mistake, you are threatening his livelihood.
What liberals don’t realize is that no amount of education or protesting or outreach is going to wrestle control of violence away from the police while you maintain their monopoly on violence and legitimacy as arbiters of justice. There are large unions and financially powerful organizations that don’t give two shits about “No justice, no peace.”
That’s at a societal level. What about the individual level? Liberals claim that the populace should not own guns. How can they with straight faces say, “Let’s piss off the cops” and “Just call the cops when something bad happens” at the same time? If you’re pissing off cops, when they get the call to save your ass from the criminals you’ve enabled by giving up your guns, they’re just going to sit there and wait for the inevitable bag-and-tag.
Just ask Frank Serpico.
Liberals offer nothing but obeisance at every level. They seek to change nothing but the racist nature of policing. That will do nothing to destroy the aggressive violence permeating American’s police forces.
Just kidding. Black person.
Twenty-one times
I haven’t personally checked the statistic that black individuals are twenty-one times more likely to be shot by police, but I’ll accept it for the sake of argument. (Was that racist? To not believe that statistic immediately and without question? If you think so, you’re part of the problem.)
This is a gut-wrenching statistic. This is awful. This is absolutely evidence that police are victimizing black people. But the reason it’s terrible isn’t because of the racism involved, but because black people are being victimized.
To put it as clearly as I can, if my black son is ever killed by police, I will take no consolation from the fact that the cop who did it was from a precinct that displayed no racial tendencies while victimizing the populace it’s supposed to protect. None. I will take no consolation in the fact that the rule of law has been established in this country and that, oh no, I might have been born in a country without one. For even if there is a rule of law, for whatever that’s worth to me, I still wouldn’t have my son.
Liberals are culpable for deaths that can be attributed to a fantastical belief in government as a perfectible arbiter of justice. While a system exists where justice is a monopolized good, the monopolists will exact violence however they please, ever the paragons of impunity. As long as liberal race pimps claim they have the solution to a problem they won’t ever be able to fix, they are the ones furnishing the knives to slit throats. The victims of their experiment with big government—which criminalizes non-violent activity—will continue to be buried.
Make no mistake, liberals killed Eric Garner, whether racism was part of his murder or not.
