Lawsuit alleges that LA County Police tased, shot, killed dog and let it bleed to death in their patrol car

The LA County Sheriff’s department has cleared its deputies of wrongdoing in a lawsuit that accuses them of shooting, tasering and leaving for dead a family dog in their squad car. Police are denying the charges.

From HuffPo:  Steve Whitmore, a LA Sheriff’s Department spokesman, said that the deputies on the scene acted appropriately. “This is definitely not the whole story, and we look forward to telling the whole story,” Whitmore told HuffPost. “When people actually discover what happened, they will understand that we had to do what we did, and we will be vindicated.”

Police had detained the dog’s owner and were attempting to take him away when he begged them to let him put his dog away. The owner then saw a deputy pick up a lounge chair and throw it over the fence at his dog, for apparently no reason according to the lawsuit.

Another deputy actually opened the gate, walked into the owner’s backyard and tasered the animal twice in the face. He could hear his dog yelping in pain as the animal staggered to the front yard in a daze. Then the lawsuit claims a deputy drew his gun and shot the dog twice. Chico then ran through a gate opened by the officer, jumped into the passenger seat of the patrol car. It is alleged that a deputy then slammed the door shut and left the dog to die in the car.

The lawsuit is seeking financial damages for emotional distress, pain and suffering and the loss of his dog.
