IRS Strips Richard Spencer’s White Nationalist Nonprofit of Tax Exempt Status

By Grant M. Deltz

According to Internal Revenue Service records, white nationalist Richard Spencer’s nonprofit – National Policy Institute – has been stripped of tax exempt status.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Spencer said that an IRS error led NPI and himself to believe there was no need to file federal tax returns.

“I don’t want to make a comment because I don’t understand this stuff. It’s a bit embarrassing, but it’s not good,” said Spencer during a phone interview.

Incidentally, the paperwork issues at NPI seem to have surfaced around the time Spencer took it over in 2011 and begun using it as a vehicle to grow his Alt-Right/white nationalist movement.

The National Policy Institute, originally registered as a 501(c)(3), lists on it’s website that it is “dedicated to the heritage, identity, and future of people of European decent in the United States, and around the world.”
