India Binges On Porn After Google Gives Country Free Wi-Fi

by Thomas Phippen

Google supplies free Wi-Fi to 23 different train stations across India, and the complimentary service is mostly being used to watch pornography.

“More than anything, porn sites have been watched and downloaded by the people at Patna railway station” officials from RailTel, an Indian state-sponsored telecommunications company, told The Economic Times.

While some employ the free Internet to download applications and watch Hollywood and Bollywood movies, it is being used most for viewing salacious material.

More and more people in India are gaining access to the Internet. The country is the considered to be the fastest growing smartphone market due to the growing availability of cheaper devices.

“By this year-end, free Wi-Fi facility will be launched at 100 major railway stations. We will achieve our target of 400 stations in three years. Once in place, it will be the largest public Wi-Fi system in the world,” India Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said, according to The Economic Times.

As the population gains the means to use the Internet, most people are using it for entertainment purposes — including sexually explicit content.

This is not the first incident of public Wi-Fi services being used for private pleasure. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio spearheaded a highly similar initiative, where free Wi-Fi kiosks were installed throughout the urban area. After the booths were installed, there were several reports of homeless people masturbating to pornography made available by the government paid-service. Passerby and bystanders said that hobos would often play with their genitals with minors nearby.

“It’s become the norm for me to see the homeless always camped out in front of these stations,” Michael Capkin, a Kips Bay, Manhattan resident, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Sometimes they’re simply perusing the internet, often times they’re doing more lewd acts like masturbating as this is the only time they have some ‘privacy’ from the busy NYC streets. I’ve become somewhat desensitized to it as it’s commonplace.”
