Hungarian Politician Suggests Putting Pig Heads On Border Fence To Deter Refugees

A Hungarian member of the European Parliament responded to criticism of his country’s border fence by suggesting pig heads would make a great addition on the frontier to deter migrants.

Gyorgy Schopflin — who represents the Christian Democratic European Peoples’ Party — got in an argument on Twitter with Andrew Stroehlein, a representative for Human Rights Watch. Stroehlein criticized Hungary’s new method of putting up scarecrows made out of carved-out beets along the fence, arguing they “will not deter them.”

Schopflin responded by saying he agrees, and that a “pig’s head would deter more effectively.”

Stroehlein then went on to call Schopflin’s words “disgusting” and something he would expect from an “anonymous neo-Nazi trolls” and not politicians. Schoplin responded by saying he now felt he was the victim of “hate speech.”

Schoplin later deleted his tweets.

The scarecrows are just the last in a series of moves to block refugees from entering the country. The first strategy was to erect a fence along its border last October, which took the daily influx down from more than 6,000 to less than 100. (RELATED: Is Trump Wrong About A Border Chart? The mayor of a village along the border further deployed a citizen militia to chase down and catch anyone who still manages to get across with their “bare hands.” When the scarecrows went up earlier this summer, not a single illegal immigrant managed to enter for an entire month.
