“When I picked [my son] up Tuesday afternoon, I asked him ‘did you hear about the little boy?’ He started crying and he told me, ‘Dad, I don’t want to talk about it‘ and I said, ‘well we need to talk about it.’ And he said, ‘the cops are supposed to be protecting us, why are they killing us?’”

Cops can’t, and aren’t required, to protect you. Good ones will, if the rare situation arises where they can, but normally, their job is to fill out reports, and attempt to track down and punish the perp. They cannot protect you (unless you have a 24 hr armed guard for some reason – like being a witness).

Normally, unless you are rich and can hire a bodyguard, *you* are your armed guard.
