Multiple Warning Signs That Compound Was Unsafe
The debate over who was to blame for the tragic death of American ambassador Chris Stevens in Benghazi, Libya has raged ever since the attack on the consulate September 11th, 2012.
A terrorist attack ended with four Americans dead when al Qaeda forces staged a carefully planned raid on the U.S. consulate, which the White House initially claimed was a random outburst over a controversial video. 60 minutes filed a shocking report that revealed just how many warnings there were leading up to the event and asks if the casualties might have been avoided.
60 minutes interviewed a former British soldier who was in charge of security called ‘Morgan Jones’, a pseudonym. Jones was in charge of the Libyan guard force who manned the compound’s gates. He had been summoned by the ambassador because he was concerned about the security situation.
A second Libyan force, hired by the state department, was supposed to guard the compound in event of an attack. Jones complained that the militia was no good and that if there was a battle they wouldn’t protect the Americans there.
As it turns out, he was correct.
Lieutenant Colonel Andy Wood was one of the top American security officials in Libya. Based in Tripoli, he met with Amb. Stevens every day. He notified Amb. Stevens that an attack might be coming because al Qaeda had posted online that they were going to try to kill the Americans in Benghazi. He warned the U.S. mission in the area, “You are gonna get attacked. You are gonna get attacked in Benghazi. It’s gonna happen. You need to change your security profile.”
In the months prior to the attack, Ambassador Stevens had reported to Washington that the al Qaeda flag was flying over numerous nearby buildings. And on the night that the attack finally happened, Morgan Jones was proven right. The militia did not help and the compound was overrun. Ambassador Stevens had just enough time to phone Lieutenant Colonel Wood and say, “The consulate is under attack,” before the line was cut.

60 Minutes via Pfizer (big Pharma) threw a few crumbs. They did not address the lie about the video, they did not address what happened to C.S. in the hours prior to his murder, they did not address the mission of weapons running. What little they had was probably provided by the Drudge Report. They barely addressed the stand down order. Media keeping us malnourished of all the important facts.
