Government Punishes Ex-Homeless Man For Not Reporting Money He Found On Sidewalk

HACKENSACK, N.J. – James Brady was denied General Assistance and Medicaid benefits by the Hackensack Human Services Department after he failed to report $850 he found on a sidewalk last April.

Brady contacted the police to alert them to the find, but when no owner was located he was allowed to keep the money. He was homeless at the time but has since found housing.

Brady failed to report the $850 and will not be eligible for Medicaid. Bergen County’s United Way has set up a fund to benefit Brady.

Donations to Mr. Brady can be made here
