Girl Shamed Her Library For Saying She Couldn’t Take A ‘Boys Only’ Robotics Class
Cash Cayen wanted to sign up for a robotics class at the Timmins Public Library in Ontario, Canada but when she tried registering, Cash was denied because she was a girl.
Cayen, undeterred, started a petition to the library asking them to allow girls in the class. Unsurprisingly, she quickly received massive support in her campaign, gathering thousands of signatures and comments in support of her petition.
She even received a personal message from a robotics engineer in New York.
When I first read the headline I thought that this was obviously not fair and a case of discrimination but it turns out that she wasn’t really denied just for being a girl.
The robotics class was being specially offered to boys only because according to Assistant Library Director, Elaine De Bonis, boys’ academic and literacy skills don’t improve over the summer break. For that reason this class was targeting boys falling behind in order to help them in school the following year.
Who cares about boys though? This girl wanted something and damnit, she’s going to get what she wants.
Space is limited girls, so hurry and sign up before some boy who needs extra help takes up a spot.
