Gay Feminist Teen Wins International Fame For Being Economically Illiterate

CALIFORNIA – A gay feminist teen has gained worldwide attention after propagating a famous economic myth that women earn less than men for the same work. The gender wage gap has been soundly debunked, but that won’t stop an army of left wing ideologues from celebrating their own ignorance on full public display.

17-year-old Caitlyn Cannon contributed the following quote which gained her the notoriety when it was reposted as a tweet:

“I need feminism because I intend on marrying rich and I can’t do that if my wife and I are making .75 cent for every dollar a man makes.”

Cannon, a recent graduate from Oak Hills High School in California wrote the quote in her yearbook, with someone posting it as a tweet. The tweet was reposted over 10,000 times, and favorited 13,000 times. She’s now the darling of leftists, whose careers are built on advancing the ideas of people based on the color of their skin or sexual preferences, rather than the content of their character or intellectual aptitude.

From the CBC:

“I was tired of seeing the same old quotes from popular books and movies and authors,” said Cannon, who describes herself as “feminist” and “really gay” in her Twitter bio, via email to The Huffington Post. “I wanted to call attention to a problem that women face.”

Of course the claim that women earn less than men, like many myths, does have some truth to it. But the reality of why women earn less is one of those unfortunate truths that social democrats have difficulty coming to terms with. Women actually earn less than men because they are less ambitious, meaning that they are less willing to sacrifice their personal lives for work. They work fewer hours, and drop out of the workforce to have children.

Alternatively, when compared with men side-by-side and working the same amount of hours, women actually earn a bit more than men in similar careers. The wage gap myth arises from a misunderstanding of how we look at data.

From The Libertarian Republic:

Dr. Horwitz clarifies: “What’s happening here is not discrimination in the labor market, but differences in the choices men and women make … that lead to them getting paid different salaries.” Horwitz explains that there is a concept in economics known as “human capital,” which embodies all of the prior experience, education, and other general skill sets that prepare individuals for certain jobs or fields. If one person’s human capital is better suited toward certain fields than someone else, then that person is going to earn a better salary because more responsibilities and higher positions will be offered to him or her.

So women earn the money they work for in a free market. Interestingly enough though, when it comes to government employees, there is actually a disparity. During her tenure as a New York senator, Hillary Clinton actually paid her female employees 72 cents on the dollar, as did Barack Obama in the White House.

A “do as I say, not as I do” attitude is common from the left-wing economic illiterati, such as how the unions who campaigned for a $15 minimum wage in California, are now seeking to be exempt from the minimum wage they instituted. But truly, if women desired to make as much as a man, they could always work more hours, or not have babies. The choice is up to them.
