WINTER GARDEN, FL – A gas station clerk is glad to be alive after being shot at by a petty thief. The shooting happened at a Hess station in Winter Garden, Florida when a man asked for a beverage and then pulled out a revolver, demanding he open the store safe instead. Another clerk on duty came in to the store and the thief demanded he try to get the safe open, with no success. The thief pointed his gun at one of the clerks and fired before he ran away.

At first they thought he missed, but when paramedics inspected the clerk for chest pains they realized that he had been shot but his cell phone blocked the bullet. He didn’t have any other injuries and was thankful to be alive.

Winter Garden Police Lt. Scott Allen said, “I’ve seen individuals get shot with low-caliber handguns and I’ve seen it be life ending. So, for this gentleman to be as lucky as he is, it’s a good day for us.”

If the clerk had been armed, it wouldn’t have gotten to the point of needing his cell phone to save his life.
