BARCELONA, SPAIN – A former police chief turned neo-nazi was mauled by lions after entering their enclosure at the Barcelona Zoo. Justo Jose is in intensive care suffering from serious injuries he incurred when three of the animals attacked him.
Jose dressed in a military uniform to enter the lion’s enclosure at the zoo. The lions immediately set upon him, throwing him down into the pit and mauling him. Three of the animals participated in the attack, causing rescue teams to take a half hour to rescue him. When he was finally retrieved, Jose was rushed to the hospital covered in scratches and bite marks. He’s expected to survive.
Ignasi Armengol, director of Barcelona Municipal Services said: ‘The intention was not to kill him, they were just trying to play with him.”
Jose’s story has gone from bad to worse when earlier in the year he lost custody of his son, got divorced and his mother died. He’s also been on paid leave from the police force as well ever since he was arrested for draping swastikas over the Casa Mila building at an anti-abortion protest. It is not known at this time whether Jose jumping into the lion’s den was an act of protest.
