Protests Against Feds Intensifying War of Words Over Nevada Rancher (VIDEO)

LAS VEGAS, NV–Word of rancher Cliven Bundy‘s act of defiance has spread, as has the number of supporters lashing out at the federal government’s encroaching authority. 40 people gathered outside the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department headquarters to protest. They requested an increased presence from Sheriff Doug Gillespie, calling on him to “protect the people” that are being tased, hit, and arrested by federal agents.

Congressional hopeful Niger Innis said to those gathered that the civil rights of protestors were being violated, and “federal officials are being abusive.” At the same time, he encouraged protestors to be peaceful, including militia groups from outside Nevada. He also said that it was best to not bring their weapons.

The amount of vitriol on the part of the farmers in the area reveals why the Bureau of Land Management has been putting off this final confrontation for twenty years. They are continuing to round up Bundy’s 900 head of cattle, and have closed off nearly 600,000 acres of public land where they “illegally” graze. Amy Lueders, state director of the BLM in Nevada, said this week Bundy owes nearly $1 million.
