The man who gained notoriety over the documentary “Super Size Me,” which berated the fast-food industry for being unhealthy, is opening his own fast-food restaurant in Westersville, Ohio.
Morgan Spurlock will temporarily open “Holy Chicken” Saturday, with hopes of opening a permanent space in January.
“Holy Chicken” will offer only chicken, no red meat, and Spurlock humanely raises the birds himself, according to ABC6 Columbus.
“They are antibiotic free, hormone-free, all the buzzwords, we got them all,” he told reporters.
“Super Size Me” followed Spurlock for a month, when he could only eat McDonald’s meals, and if a cashier asked if he wanted to supersize a meal, he couldn’t decline.
He gained 25 pounds, had a sharp increase in cholesterol, liver damage, general fatigue, and began to have headaches. Spurlock’s experience captured the attention of many, including the judges at the Sundance Film Festival and briefly became a cultural touchstone, spawning parody and copycats. McDonald’s dropped the supersize option weeks after the film’s release.
Spurlock promises offering a better product than McDonald’s, saying his chicken sandwich is “healthy-ish.”
