The Houston Chronicle is reporting that ex-punk rocker, and current Democrat Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) is stepping up to challenge incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz for his Senate seat in 2018.

O’Rourke, according to Democrat sources, reported through the Chronicle, O’Rourke is planning to announce his campaign on Friday. He is a former member of the punk band “Foss,” and is currently representing the 16th district of Texas in the House of Representatives.

He is suspected to have the assistance of Chris Archer, a major Democratic operative in the state of Texas, and someone who has had his hands in the campaigns of former Mayor and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro, as well as other Democratic congressmen in Texas.

Archer has called O’Rourke “Kennedy-esque.” He continued on about O’Rourke, “He’s got this aura around him. It’s neat because he can talk about anything.”

Cruz, a freshman Senator, looks to have an advantage in the race, being that it is in the state of Texas, a solid red state, versus a Democrat.
