Elhamy Agina, a member of the Egyptian Parliament, Has publicly encouraged more women to undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). His reasoning behind this is that the populace of men in Egypt suffer from “sexual weakness.” His conclusion about this stems from the fact that “Egypt is among the biggest consumers of sexual stimulants.” He also says that if Egyptian women stop FGM, they will need “stronger men, and we don’t have men of that sort.” Elhamy then goes on to say that since they do not have sexually strong men, the women of the country need to keep undergoing FGM because it “reduces a woman’s sexual appetite.” He also states that the women should “stand by their men” in order for life to proceed smoothly.
According to a 2013 UNICEF report, Egypt has the highest total number of women suffering from FGM, as 27.2 million women in Egypt have undergone FGM.
This is something that libertarians look at in disgust. Telling women that they should “stand be their men” just to make sure society can go on as it “should be” is preposterous. Women shouldn’t be pressured into mutilating their genitals because somebody else cannot have sexual intercourse without stimulation. If this happened in America or the Western World in general, that politician would be at the least ostracized, humiliated and given the boot.
The multi-culturalists will give the obvious answer, “We shouldn’t mess with their culture, it’s how they do stuff, it’s none of our business.” A libertarian would whole-heartedly disagree with that. The thing about liberty is it’s not only applicable to Americans or the western world. Liberty lovers all over the world share the same belief that we should fight for our neighbors if they are being oppressed by authoritarians.
The women in these countries in the Middle East are severely oppressed. They have to abide by Sharia law, and they have to abide by what the men of the country tell them to do. If they don’t obey, they will get punished. There have been many stories of young girls and women being stoned to death for not marrying a man that they did not want to marry. That’s something that the Western World doesn’t get exposed to because of the multi-culturalists and politicians saying that we should ignore what happens on the other side of the world.
It’s also pertaining to the fact that a lot of conservatives are totally against bringing in refugees from those parts of the world. The conservatives are only partly right. Our immigration system is broken, and it does need to be fixed in various different ways. Then on the other side of the spectrum, the regressive left says we should let every refugee in, not even paying attention to who is actually coming in and whether they are here for a better life, or to hurt us. The people that really do want a better life should be welcomed with open arms. However, we shouldn’t let absolutely everybody in our country, considering most of the refugees that have gone to Europe aren’t women and children; the majority of them are men.
If you want to come to America for a better life, you should be able to come here. That is something that every libertarian agrees with. But if you are coming here with nefarious intentions, you’d better believe we aren’t going to stand idly by when you do something evil.
