Dog escapes from owner. Runs marathon. Wins medal. Gets neutered.

Now why would you cut these genes out of the pool?

Screen Shot 2013-10-11 at 8.02.47 PMPoor Boogie! He’s a hero! Well he’s kind of naughty too. His owners are having him neutered after he ran away and inadvertently entered a half-marathon during his great escape last Saturday.

Boogie is a brown lab from Indiana, and he managed to finish the race in just two hours and 15 minutes, outpacing over half of the race’s runners.

This was his fourth escape that week. Animal control found him at the race and took him away. Luckily he was saved when the Evansville Police posted a photo of the dog on their Facebook page.

Boogie has become an online sensation! He won the YMCA Half-Marathon medal. There might even be a “Team Boogie” event next year! The Evansville Police reported that Boogie has been taking lots of naps since he received his medal.

His owners reported that next week he will be microchipped so he won’t get lost again. They’re also neutering the poor guy. Oh, the humanity! We hope you still got it in you for next year though Boogie! Never give up!
