Car manufacturer Dodge faced backlash Sunday and Monday for a Twitter banner that white nationalists and social justice advocates attempted to link to the Charlottesville riot.

Dodge’s wallpaper read “Roadkill Nights powered by Dodge,” “drag racing, thrill rides, muscle cars & more,” displaying the date Saturday, August 12 for the auto event — the same date as a Dodge driver killed a woman in Charlottesville, Va. On Sunday, neo-Nazi site The Daily Stormer published a post toying with the idea that the Twitter banner was a “publicity stunt.”

Hey @Dodge: The Daily Stormer is accusing you of facilitating the murder of Heather Heyer in . Do you have a response?

“This incident is extremely good viral advertising for Dodge,” said The Daily Stormer in its post.

Dr. Eugene Gu called out the car manufacturer for tweets in which it was clearly advertising its automobile event, deeming the tweets “insensitive.”

Daily Stormer praised @Dodge for  and the murder of Heather Heyer. These are still the top tweets on Dodge’s Twitter timeline

“Uh, ? Not your fault that one of your cars plowed into a bunch of pedestrians today, but you still might wanna change this,” said public speaker Shauna Wright.

Eep. Uh, @dodge? Not your fault that one of your cars plowed into a bunch of pedestrians today, but you still might wanna change this.

“Are you serious?” asked journalist Carmine Sabia. “You want Dodge to respond because some assface mentioned them in a story? You people are going off the rails.”

Dodge replaced the wallpaper in question by Monday morning and did not respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment in time for press.
