DETROIT, MI – Earlier this year, Detroit Police Chief James Craig urged citizens to arm themselves against the scourge of crime that overwhelmed the city government’s ability to protect its citizens. Last week two hoodlums tried to break into a home on the city’s west side, encountering the homeowner who was investigating the disturbance. The homeowner was forced to protect himself, fatally shooting the two thugs.

This is the tenth fatal self-defense shooting in Detroit this year.
“The citizens are protecting their homes and their property and their families,” said police spokesman Michael Woody. “They are well within their rights to do that.”
“I know of no other place where I’ve seen this number of justifiable homicides,” said Chief Craig. “It’s interesting that these incidents go across gender lines. People who are faced with a dangerous situation are taking matters into their own hands. [And while] we’re not advocating violence, we’re advocating not being not being victims. We’re advocates self-protection. We want people to be safe.”
