Deployed sailor ordered to appear in court, could lose custody of daughter (VIDEO)

Navy submariner Matthew Hindes thought he’d already won a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife. The couple’s 6-year-old daughter, Kaylee, was removed from the home of her mother Angela by child protective services in 2010 – and Matthew was awarded permanent custody.

Now, Angela is fighting to get Kaylee back. Unfortunately for Hindes, he’s currently deployed – serving on a nuclear submarine in the Pacific Ocean. Kaylee is presently in the care of her stepmother.

The judge, needless to say, seems inclined to agree with Angela: she has ordered Hindes to appear in court in Michigan on Monday, despite this being physically impossible. Judge Margaret Noe has denied Hindes’ motion to delay the hearing until he can return. “At this point, I don’t think I have any alternative but to enter a bench warrant for his arrest,” Noe has said.

“He’s protecting the rights of others,” says stepmother Benita-Lynn, “but who’s protecting his rights?”
