A Texas fast food chain fired their employee after she refused to serve a Dallas police officer last week.

Golden Chick in Dallas quickly terminated their employee after an outpouring of outrage over social media, reports Dallas News.

A patrol sergeant alleged that an employee told him that the restaurant did not serve people like him. The officer asked for clarification and the employee said that the restaurant does not serve officers.

“The lady who made the comment said that she was making a sarcastic remark to the officer,” Golden Chick store director Ike Ugokwe said. “Because it was unexpected, the officer was thinking, ‘Did something change here that I don’t know.’”

People took to social media to express their anger over the situation. Many threatened to boycott the restaurant if the employee wasn’t let go. The company quickly released a statement to condemn the employee’s actions.

“This does not reflect our restaurants’ pride in serving the Dallas Police Department and all police departments throughout the communities our restaurants are located,” the restaurant said over Facebook.

The chain has a history of supporting police officers and performing various services for the community. On-duty officers usually receive a 50 percent discount and the restaurant tried to raise money for officers after the July Dallas shooting.

Ugokwe remains a little concerned that the employee’s comment could ruin the relationship the franchise has with police officers.

“All those things that we had worked over the years to build see you can see it crashing down because of one simple comment,” Ugokwe told CBS.

The president of Dallas Police Association spoke up in support of the restaurant, congratulating them on the work they have done for police officers.
“Golden Chick has been an amazing community partner with DPD and the Dallas Police Association. The tremendous company and its employees raised money to support the families of the fallen from the July 7th tragedy. I and all officers appreciate their continued support,”  Michael Mata, the president, said.
