Court Demand Man Pay $50K For Breaking Promise To Marry Woman

ATLANTA, GA – Christopher Ned Kelley is being forced to pay $50k for breaking his promise to marry his fiancée. Georgia state’s court of appeals ruled that Kelley must pay Melissa Cooper because he ruined the relationship.

Kelley had given Cooper an engagement ring worth $10,000 already and lived with her for more than a decade, as well as fathering a child together. Cooper quit her job to raise the children, thinking that Kelley would support the family and marry her. But Kelley had been cheating on her, and when Cooper found out she asked him to move out, sued him for fraud and a “breach of a promise to marry.”

Kelley defended himself in court by arguing that Cooper was essentially a prostitute and he was paying her for sexual relations. He claimed in court he never intended to marry her saying, “I never initiated the concept of marriage with her, outside of giving her that ring” and “I never said the words ‘will you marry me’ to her.”

A trial court ruled in Cooper’s favor, awarding her damages and attorneys’ fees totaling $50,000.
