Congresswoman Says Climate Change Forces Women Into Prostitution

by Casey Bennett

Ladies, are you sick and tired of pimping yourself out night after night to combat the detrimental effects of climate change?

Are you exhausted by the mere thought of hitting the city streets to provide food and water for your families?

Does it anger you how misogynistic climate change is?

Well, get ready to kick off those 6″ platform shoes and cry “hallelujah!”, as Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) has once again introduced a resolution to Congress requesting the devastating consequences of climate change be addressed.

The resolution, originally introduced in 2013, argues that climate change has a greater impact on women than men because it forces them to engage in prostitution in order to provide for their families. According to the resolution, dwindling resources leave women with no choice because they grow their own food, or something.

Make sense? Not really.

The resolution reads, in part,

[W]omen in the United States and around the world are the linchpin of families and communities and are often the first to feel the immediate and adverse effects of social, environmental, and economic stresses on their families and communities.”

“[F]ood insecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health.”

Let’s be fair though and consider the possibility that climate change does indeed lead to prostitution by examining other negative consequences faced by women.

For example, climate change is the number one reason men cite on dating websites for not calling a woman after the first date. Excess warmth in the air, thanks to rising global temperatures, cause women to sweat more which is smelly and gross. As a result, women today are less likely to find that special someone.

Women are also impacted by climate change through their clothing choices. Have you ever had to peel your bra away from your chest because you were so warm that it practically welded itself to your skin? You can thank rising sea temperatures for that.

Finally, women are affected by climate change through employment. Who wants to hire a woman who smells and always has to readjust her bra?

Not to worry. I’m sure Ms. Lee has a resolution for that, too.
