Clinton Camp: Bernie Bros Have ‘Very White Male Centric View Of The World’

Recently leaked emails provide a rare glimpse into how Hillary Clinton’s campaign and supporters talk about Bernie Sanders’ fans when the public is not looking.

In a hacked email released by Wikileaks, former White House Director of Speechwriting Jon Favreau wrote a lengthy list of advice for the Clinton campaign.

“Far more effective has been what she’s been doing recently – saying that Bernie is a single issue voter and that there are a lot more issues at stake than Wall Street,” Favreau wrote. “This idea that class is the only divide and economic issues are all that matter is a very white male centric view of the world (a Bernie Bro view, if you will).”

Dan Schwerin, Hillary Clinton’s Director of Speechwriting, forwarded the email to other members of the Clinton campaign, adding, “As you know, much of this is very much in line with my own thinking over the past several months.”

Just a few weeks after sending that email to the Clinton camp, Favreau wrote in The Daily Beast, “So while I may not have imagined myself saying this a few years ago, I certainly believe it now: It’s far more important to elect Hillary Clinton in 2016 than it was to elect Barack Obama in 2008.”

In the same email, Favreau linked to a New York Times column from David Brooks, saying “(I know, I know, I’ll go kill myself).”
