“Christians” Refuse To Tip Their Gay Server (VIDEO)

“Do Unto Others”

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” -Jesus of Nazareth

OVERLAND PARK, KS – A 20-year-old waiter received a nasty message on his receipt along with zero tip even after he performed good service. The customers wrote specifically they were stiffing him for being gay.

KCTV reports:

“Thank you for your service, it was excellent. That being said, we cannot in good conscience tip you, for your homosexual lifestyle is an affront to GOD. (Homosexual slur) do not share in the wealth of GOD, and you will not share in ours,” the customer wrote. “We hope you will see the tip your (homosexual slur) choices made you lose out on, and plan accordingly. It is never too late for GOD’s love, but none shall be spared for (homosexual slur). May GOD have mercy on you.”

Naturally this has ignited a social media firestorm. Now people are turning out by the dozens to flood the waiter with tips at the Carrabbas restaurant in Overland Park. A former pastor in the area who leads study for LGBT members said, “This does not represent Christianity. I called them Pharisees,” he said. “God really loves us. And God does not advertise or promote hate. That is not love.”

God is love. He is also judgement. Christians are commanded to love, not to judge or condemn (or to absolve, for that matter). To do so is assuming a role that God reserves for himself alone and is blasphemy.

Gu Ga October 25, 2013 at 7:14 pm

And we must always remember we don’t know all the facts that may be involved in other people’s life… Only God knows, only God can judge. We should give up on neophariseeism and loving each other much more… pretty utopic, I guess…

the lawn boy October 25, 2013 at 9:14 pm

I believe the point of Matt: 7 which are referring to is not tell you not to judge, but if you judge you will be judge in the same manner in which you judge. We have to judge things and people all the time. I believe that is the point of the teaching. How can you rebuke a brother for doing wrong if you can not judge him?

Guest October 25, 2013 at 10:50 pm

Rebuking is reserved for those who are believers in Christ. You can’t rebuke someone with the Word of God if it means nothing to him. “Cast not your pearls before swine” (not calling anyone swine… it’s just a way of saying that it will fall on deaf ears). And it’s also important not to confuse discernment with judgement. You can be discerning and selective about who how you interact with someone and who you engage with, without being judgemental and condemning them.

Fritzz Ezz October 26, 2013 at 5:51 am

We Can’t Judge Souls, We Can Only Judge Actions.

Kavikv October 27, 2013 at 3:56 pm

So by judging, a Christian is taking the place of God because God is judgement, but God is love, and by loving Christians are commanded to take the place of God and love? I think my brain just leaked, I don’t get it at all.

Mario Lawrence October 28, 2013 at 2:56 pm

The difference is, Christians are actually instructed to love others, but they are not given clearance to judge them.
I hope that patched your leak. =)

Tina Thomas October 28, 2013 at 3:43 am

I have always wondered why some people think it is their job to do “God’s job”.

Ree October 28, 2013 at 3:24 pm

Because their god doesn’t exist to do it himself.

Wm Chadwick October 25, 2013 at 6:44 pm

God said we are not to judge. We are to love All people. Hate the sin, but have compassion for all people.

Keith Smooth Lefebvre October 25, 2013 at 6:47 pm

My first question would be how did they know he was gay?

Shane Henrik Lamminparras October 25, 2013 at 8:55 pm

Probably had a lisp or a flailing hand. Pretty easy in that case.

Tom Fodi October 25, 2013 at 6:50 pm

the people treating their server in this manner are as much representatives of Jesus as a circle represents a square. As a leader of a Christian church I reject the notion that individuals who treat others in this manner are true disciples of Jesus.

Tim Jitsu October 25, 2013 at 11:27 pm

amen! hate the sin not the sinner.

Guest October 28, 2013 at 1:46 am

Your comment is damn near as bigoted.

Austin Green October 28, 2013 at 3:03 am

Get over it, stop being a bleeding heart

Guest October 28, 2013 at 3:07 am

Bleeding heart? Im far from that. However I dont appreciate bigotry. Especially when it is justified by fairy-tales that are ripped off of other fairy-tales.

Austin Green October 28, 2013 at 3:15 am

Like I said, get over it. It’s his beliefs. His faith, along with mine call homosexuality a sin. Hate the sin, not the sinner is true. If he was a bigot he would hate gay people straight out. Like I won’t hate someone who has sexual relations outside of marriage but I will not like the sin they commited. You’re the worst kind of Atheist you know that? The militant kind that goes around trying to disprove religion as a whole. You’re worse than religious people who go around shoving their faith down peoples throats

Googol October 28, 2013 at 3:39 am

“Especially when it is justified by fairy-tales that are ripped off of other fairy-tales.”

Where’s your evidence for this claim? Are you one of those Osiris/pagan conspiracy loons?

Tim Jitsu October 28, 2013 at 10:14 pm

you should have at least looked up the definition of bigotry/bigoted before you commented. Bigotry is the intolerance towards the PERSON that holds a different opinion. not the intolerance towards the opinion itself… so shhhhh

Tam Berne October 29, 2013 at 4:36 pm

We can be as intolerant as we want, based on our religious beliefs. Last time I looked freedom of thought and word was still a right this country enjoyed. A different opinion is a whole lot different than a different lifestyle which a person’s religious beliefs find reprehensible. This family did nothing illegal or wrong, they have to answer for their deeds. Webster’s definition is skewed and has leaned toward political correctness. When I was growing up tolerance was an unacceptable trait. Today it is glorified so we can all tolerate each others sins. Many of us march to the beat of a different drummer. The Bible, my source of authority, does not agree with your wishy washy tolerance aspect. We are to love one another and treat each other with respect, we are not commanded to condone, approve or TOLERATE sinful behavior. This family may have strong convictions and it is their prerogative to use their money in the way they see fit. I’m not saying they were right or wrong, just exercising their freedoms. That is something many progressives don’t approve of. Yet, Christian or other believers who express their beliefs are criticized for it, well, that is something you and all your co-unbelievers will have to get over, we are not going anywhere and are here to stay!

ConservativeLifer October 25, 2013 at 6:55 pm

I am served by gay waiters and waitresses all the time, usually unknown to me.
Certainly unless they repent of their sins and put their faith in Jesus Christ alone, they are heading for Hell after their deaths.
But their poor choices in life doesn’t keep me from common courtesy and a good tip for good service.

Gu Ga October 25, 2013 at 7:10 pm

Don’t take for granted you’re gonna enter Heaven before a gay man. Just my 2 cents 😉 BEING GAY ISN’T A CHOICE, btw (I know for sure…)

Wade Hudgins October 25, 2013 at 7:34 pm

I am sad to say that you are just as guilty as the people that left the note of judging people. Just who are you to say which person will or will not go to Heaven? What gives you the right to act as God? I believe God knows and understands them better than you ever will, so I would suggest you keep your judgements down to white or wheat or house dressing or ranch on your salad. At least you will be safe in your choices that way and you won’t offend God or your fellow human.

Tam Berne October 25, 2013 at 6:58 pm

It was their prerogative to leave or not leave a tip. The mistake was leaving a note. IMHO Their note would do nothing to promote Christ or His message to this poor guy. But we all make mistakes and we cannot judge them either for they may believe what they were doing is right.

Desertcatn October 26, 2013 at 12:45 am

That’s what doesn’t make sense, I think this is a hoax, happens all the time.

skinny October 25, 2013 at 7:00 pm

this is pure propoganda, probably written and staged by the waiter and his friends

V the K October 26, 2013 at 6:36 pm

My first thought was that the note was pretty obvious trolling.

Cat Jacob October 25, 2013 at 7:00 pm

Sounds as legit as the n***er written in the tip line of a waitress. Handwriting analysis proved that the customer did not write the slur.

Mark Huston October 25, 2013 at 7:01 pm

These folks should be ashamed of themselves, you can hate the SIN but not the SINNER, feed and love those in SIN. I as a Christian would not be so mean. On the surface they sound like the “Holy then Thou crowd”, which just as bad as what they were trying to point out.

Hurmoth October 25, 2013 at 7:05 pm

I suppose these people missed where Jesus went to the sinners. Sounds like these people identify more with the Pharisees. Jesus put them in their place too, saying, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (John 8:44)

Reading this, I am reminded of The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector (Luke 18:9-14), maybe these people should be a bit more humble and a lot less highminded. They should also remember that when a prostitute, who, under the law of that time, should have been stoned, Jesus showed mercy and forgave her of her sins and called out the Pharisees for their own hypocrisy. We are all sinners and to act self-righteous is of the law, not of God. (And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith. -Philippians 3:9)

Gu Ga October 25, 2013 at 7:12 pm

Christians, especially in the US, are NEOPHARISEES (not Christians at all…)

Wade Hudgins October 25, 2013 at 7:39 pm

Well, the Pharisees would be the UBER CHRISTIANS that would set themselves apart from others, they would lead the church and the choir and the people, but in their heart is no love and they believe they are better than everyone else because they are “good” with God and keep all his commandments. When in fact, they don’t even know God. God is love and he did not dis-associate with anyone, from crooked tax collector to harlot, he loved them all, and gave freely to them.

James Pflager October 25, 2013 at 7:14 pm

im not agreeing with this story at all so dont get me wrong.. but hate is a point of view. god doesnt hate people who go to hell but they still go there.. god didnt hate the people who died in the great flood, but people still died there. im just pointing this out. i have nothing against gays, but both sides have such misinformation going on that its impossible to have any kind of useful discussion when everyones just blurting their 2 second thought process..

Papi October 25, 2013 at 7:22 pm

They didn’t have a problem letting him bring their food or take their order though did they?

Desertcatn October 26, 2013 at 12:44 am

I think this is a hoax, Papi! Love Ron Paul!

Papi October 28, 2013 at 3:59 am

Could be. Some people love attention and things like this have happened in the past so it makes it sound more legitimate.

Tina Thomas October 28, 2013 at 3:46 am

Great point, Papi!

Steve B. October 25, 2013 at 7:27 pm

That first paragraph is a bit of literary genius.

Jeremy Randolph October 25, 2013 at 7:30 pm

Full disclosure: I am a Christian and former pastor. I do believe as scripture says, that homosexuality is a sin. With that said, this is in complete opposition to Christ’s approach, and there is nothing in scripture that prohibits a believer from doing business with a homosexual. I would say just the opposite is in fact true. These people are simply cheap morons looking for an excuse to cheat the tip. Which is nothing new for church folks. We have an awful (earned) reputation for tipping poorly.

However, I’d like to know more because so many of these “tip stories” turn out to be false or created by the waiter/waitress to stir things up. If it is authentic, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest their armpits.

Tina Thomas October 28, 2013 at 3:46 am

I wonder what would happen if someone bothered to point out to those two that according to the Bible, “Judgement begins with the house of God.” ?

Mario Lawrence October 28, 2013 at 2:57 pm

Damn dude. Fleas in the armpits? That one’s funny. lol

Gail Rinderknecht October 25, 2013 at 7:31 pm

He has thin skin. When I was a waitress, I often got no tips and comments implying that I was a prostitute. All waitresses serving drinks must be prostitutes, right? I was a college student working extra shifts on holidays and weekends to help with my college expenses. And I was already a Christian. Some people are just dumb.

Kat94 October 25, 2013 at 7:31 pm

Westboro Baptist Church members maybe?

dbb1031 October 25, 2013 at 7:36 pm

Gee I didn’t thing GOD was the sole property of Christians……….what a bigoted article to assume they were Christians …………….

CelticGyrl October 25, 2013 at 8:04 pm

These people aren’t Christians. They are more like the Westboro “Baptist” Church fanatics who protest military funerals. Funny how it’s the same issue for both…Homosexuality.

I look forward to the day all these “self-righteous crusaders” discover the truth of God’s word…”Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37 (ESV).

Chris0113 October 25, 2013 at 8:10 pm

I am a Christian. I believe the Bible is the absolute and living Word of God. As such, I believe that homosexuality is indeed a sin. Many other things are also sin.
I do NOT, however, believe it is right for anyone, ESPECIALLY Christians to act like… donkeys.
It is “Christians” like those in this story, and like those from Westboro who give Christ and His Church a bad name.

Matt Vaughn October 25, 2013 at 8:21 pm

This infuriates me as a Christian. That behavior is not at all indicative of how real Christians behave. Receiving service and tipping according to that service should be as simple as that. Do you believe you’ve won that person over to God by behaving that way? I daresay no. Refusing to tip because you disagree with someone’s lifestyle is about as asinine as it gets. I also do not approve of homosexuality, but treating people poorly because of their sexual orientation is inexcusable.

Desertcatn October 26, 2013 at 12:43 am

The majority of these incidents have been hoaxes, something about this doesn’t pass the smell test.

Cl4tgp October 25, 2013 at 8:30 pm

Did anybody stop to think that just maybe this is a hoax ? Maybe (I’m not saying for certain) the note was faked so the server could get attention, sympathy and extra tips from the sympathetic. And even if its not, the customers actions show they are Christian only by word and not deed.

Joe October 25, 2013 at 8:50 pm

Or they weren’t Christian, but saw it as a great way to stiff someone on a tip, and blame someone else for it.

Mario Lawrence October 25, 2013 at 9:07 pm

The gay man did not avoid serving them because they were Christian. He didn’t discriminate against them. They are Christian in name only, and have forgotten the principles behind several key verses:
Deuteronomy 24:14
Proverbs 3:27
James 5:4
Leviticus 19:13

Need I go on? If they wanted to make a good Christian witness to this man, then simply thank him for his service, give him a very generous tip instead, and tell him that greater blessings than that tip await, if he tries to make changes in his life.
That’s up to him, and they had no right to condemn him.

Papi October 28, 2013 at 4:05 am

That would be the proper way to do it. But I can’t think of a Christian church that I know of this isn’t just a social club.

the lawn boy October 25, 2013 at 9:08 pm

I like how the pastor in the area say ”This does not represent Christianity. I called them Pharisees,”
So he is say they are a type of religious/social “jew”, not christians. Good job pastor. Now you are showing that your an asshole like the people who did not leave a tip.

Kimberly Gamba October 25, 2013 at 9:53 pm

This is such a small representation of the whole of Christianity. Sad that this is what your picking up on.

Angel Annihilation October 25, 2013 at 11:16 pm

We’re suppose to love, God alone well judge him/her for their sin, as much as he will judge me for mine. My only duty is to warn the lost from the wrath to come, and to turn them hope of Christ. But never to force them into dogma.

Josh Kline October 26, 2013 at 4:25 pm

This is why we don’t need government to protect us against discrimination. The market has righted this wrong and heaped scorn upon these “Christians”.

iheretic October 26, 2013 at 5:24 pm

Anyone consider that this waiter might have written this message himself and the whole thing is a hoax?

Auntie_Social October 27, 2013 at 8:01 pm

I’m sorta wondering how they even knew he was gay. Did he push the issue?

Papi October 28, 2013 at 4:01 am

Their had their gaydar up.

Abraham Varughese October 26, 2013 at 6:19 pm

What if a gay customer refuse to tip a christian!.. Would it make the news? – doubut it…

kerston October 27, 2013 at 9:19 pm

Holy hell would be raised and you know it.

Auntie_Social October 27, 2013 at 7:59 pm

Yeah, it wasn’t a very Christian way to act. However, tips are supposedly left up to the discretion of the patron. They are not mandatory. Servers get stiffed all the time for little or no reason. Why is this national news?

Austin Green October 28, 2013 at 3:04 am

They don’t have to tip if they don’t want to. It is a little silly that just because the server was gay they decided not to. But they are not bound by law to tip that person

Gene Reed October 28, 2013 at 6:57 am

This whole thing sounds like a scam to smear christians. Has anyone set up a fund for him yet?

Ree October 28, 2013 at 3:16 pm

It’s interesting that christians find their god so “powerful” that he has them doing all his dirty work because he can’t even judge people without their help. Typical.

Mario Lawrence October 28, 2013 at 3:20 pm

Get lost, Amigo.
You stink of critical irrationality.

bobfairlane October 28, 2013 at 7:55 pm

Now that the libtards and christian nutters have drowned the homosexual waiter in money, I bet you will start seeing a lot more of these news stories about aggravating tip comments. hahaha I heard the Red Lobster waitress is being sued by her ex-employer. hahhaha

CustomDesigned October 28, 2013 at 11:20 pm

Some Christians need to read 1 Corinthians 5 (where Paul instructs them to *not* hold unbelievers to Christian sexual morality). The tip behaviour would only be (possibly) biblical if the waiter openly claimed to be Christian.

The Guru November 5, 2013 at 10:30 pm

Who cares? People are entitled to their beliefs, even if they are bigoted.
