Atheists getting an awesome “Festivus” holiday display made out of beer cans in Florida! (VIDEO)

Festivus! It’s a holiday for the rest of us!

The state of Florida may have made a terrible mistake when it violated the First Amendment’s establishment of religion clause. Since they decided to display a Christian icon on public property, it’s opened the door for some local atheists to erect a monument of their own.

Atheists are putting up a Festivus pole at the state capitol thanks to Governor Rick Scott (R) for approving a request to build a pole made out of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer cans.

Festivus is the holiday that was celebrated by characters on the hit show Seinfeld, before many atheists began adopting it as their own holiday of the season. But some people aren’t planning on getting in on their holiday fun.

Fox News host Gretchen Carlson hosted a segment on the topic and said, “I am so outraged by this. Why do I have to drive around with my kids to look for a nativity scenes and be, like, ‘Oh, yeah, kids, look, there’s baby Jesus behind the Festivus pole made out of beer cans! It’s nuts!”

Catholic League President Bill Donohue said, “We don’t have to have the Klan out there on Martin Luther King Day with their monuments right next to a bust of Martin Luther King,” Donohue responded. “We don’t want to have neo-Nazis out there to stick it to Jews on Yom Kippur. And we shouldn’t have people out there ready to trash Christianity given that proximity.”

But the President of the American Atheists David Silverman doesn’t agree. He says that, “the season doesn’t belong to Christianity… Christianity stole the season from the solstice. There is no wrong way to celebrate the season, it belongs to all of us,” he said. “I say it’s much better without religion. Dump the church, you don’t like it anyway. Happy Festivus! For all of us!”
